The short answer
A full groom — bath, haircut, nails and ears — runs about $45 to $65 for a small smooth-coated dog, $60 to $85 for a medium one, $85 to $120 for a large one and $130 to $220 for a giant breed; curly, drop and double coats sit higher, with a large doodle or standard poodle at $110 to $180 (Franpos, August 2026).
A bath and brush is about $30 to $45 for a small smooth coat, $45 to $60 medium, $60 to $85 large and $85 to $130 for a giant breed (Franpos). MoeGo's broader bands run $25–$50 for a small dog's bath up to $125–$200 for an extra-large one, and $75–$125 up to $200 or more for a full groom (February 2026).
The averages: $85 nationally, $62 for a small breed, $77 medium, $95 large and $120 giant (Bark, 2026). Add-ons are priced apart: de-shedding $15–$35, de-matting $15–$20 per quarter hour, nail grind $10–$15, teeth brushing $8–$12, a flea or medicated bath $15–$25 (Franpos). Mobile grooming runs 20% to 30% above a salon (Bark).
Price by size and coat, publish the add-ons, and charge for the clock: a matted or overdue coat is a 10% to 15% surcharge (Franpos), and the dog that takes twice as long should cost more. Put the by-size price list on your website — it's the first thing a new client looks for.

Dog grooming rates (2026)
Size and coat, not breed, set the price. Bark's 2026 averages for context: $85 nationally, $62 small, $77 medium, $95 large, $120 giant — averages, not ranges. Franpos also prints the chair time behind each band: 60–75 minutes for a small smooth coat, 150–210 for a large doodle, 150–240 for a giant breed.

THE PRICING FORMULA
How to price dog grooming
Six steps from the dog on the table to the number on your price list.
Price by size and coat
Seven bands cover almost every dog: small smooth, small curly or drop, medium smooth, medium double, large smooth, large doodle or poodle, giant. Franpos prints a bath and a full-groom price for each (August 2026).
Know your chair time
A small smooth coat is 60–75 minutes; a large doodle 150–210; a giant breed 150–240 (Franpos). Divide each band's price by its minutes — if a $120 doodle takes three hours, it earns less than a $55 beagle.
Charge for the coat's condition
Mats and overdue coats cost time and risk: $15–$20 per quarter hour of de-matting and a 10%–15% surcharge past 12 weeks (Franpos). Say so on the price list so nobody is surprised.
List the add-ons
De-shedding $15–$35, nail grind $10–$15, teeth $8–$12, flea or medicated bath $15–$25, anal glands $10–$15 (Franpos). Published add-ons sell themselves at the counter.
Price mobile higher
Mobile grooming runs 20%–30% above a salon (Bark): the van, the fuel and one dog at a time. Charge for the convenience the client is paying for.
Reward the regular
Franpos's model sells a six-groom package at 8%–10% off and a monthly bath membership at $39–$59 — a full book every four to six weeks is worth more than a higher one-off price.
The formula, worked through
Say a 55 lb goldendoodle, in your salon, three months since the last groom and matted behind the ears.
A large doodle's full groom is $110–$180 (Franpos). Overdue past 12 weeks adds 10% to 15%, so about $120–$205. De-matting for the first quarter hour is $15–$20, and a de-shedding treatment $15–$35 if the owner wants it.
That's about $150–$260 for the visit, against two and a half to three and a half hours on the table. So “full grooms from $45, doodles from $110” is a fair line for your price list — and the overdue surcharge belongs on it too. The arithmetic is ours; the rates are the publisher's.
What to charge in your part of the country
Bark puts New York City grooming 30% to 50% above rural areas; MoeGo's figure is 15% to 30% above suburban and rural markets (February 2026). Franpos's bands are national, with urban and coastal salons at the top of each.
Across all prices, the Bureau of Economic Analysis puts California at 110.7 against a US average of 100 and Arkansas at 86.9 (2024 regional price parities, released February 2026) — so an $85 groom in an average market is about $95 in California and about $75 in Arkansas.
Check the three nearest salons' printed lists, then price your own from your chair time — a solo groomer in a small town with a full book can charge the band's top end.
Put your prices on your website
A price list — even “from” prices — answers a customer's first question before they pick up the phone, and it's the line an AI assistant can quote when someone asks what dog grooming costs near them.
If you build your site with Zarla, tell the editor “add a pricing section: full grooms from $45, bath and brush from $30, de-shedding from $15” and your prices go on the site, in a section you can edit any time. Dog grooming pricing: common questions
About $45–$65 for a small smooth-coated dog, $60–$85 for a medium smooth coat, $85–$120 for a large smooth coat or a medium double coat, $110–$180 for a large doodle or standard poodle and $130–$220 for a giant breed (Franpos, August 2026). The calculator above uses these bands.
About $30–$45 for a small smooth coat, $45–$60 medium, $60–$85 large and $85–$130 for a giant breed; a medium double coat with de-shedding is $70–$100 (Franpos, August 2026). MoeGo's bands run $25–$50 for a small dog to $125–$200 for an extra-large one (February 2026).
$85 nationally — $62 for a small breed, $77 medium, $95 large and $120 giant (Bark, 2026). Those are averages across every coat type, so a doodle sits well above them and a beagle below.
20%–30% above a salon price (Bark, 2026). One dog at a time, the van and the fuel are what the client pays for; MoeGo notes mobile 'typically costs more due to travel and equipment' (February 2026).
$15–$20 per 15-minute increment, plus a 10%–15% overdue-coat surcharge when the last groom was more than 12 weeks ago (Franpos, August 2026). Say both on the price list — mats are the conversation every groomer has at the counter.
De-shedding $15–$35, nail grind $10–$15, teeth brushing $8–$12, flea or medicated bath $15–$25, anal glands $10–$15, a handling surcharge of $10–$25 for a difficult dog and $25–$35 for a puppy's first visit (Franpos, August 2026). Bark puts nail grinding at $5–$15 extra and specialty shampoos at $10–$30.
By size and coat. A breed name hides the two things that set your time — the coat type and the condition — and a 'goldendoodle' can be 25 lb or 90 lb. Franpos's seven size-and-coat bands, with chair time for each, are the cleanest price list a groomer can print.
Yes — the by-size list, the add-ons and the overdue-coat rule. It's the first thing a new client looks for and it saves the phone call. On a Zarla site, tell the editor “add a pricing section” with your list, and change it any time.
