The short answer
Most locksmith jobs come to $107 to $242, with a service call or trip fee of $35 to $100 on top (Housecall Pro, August 2026).
Common jobs are priced flat: $75 to $200 for a house lockout, $50 to $130 per lock to rekey, $50 to $200 to install a deadbolt, $100 to $300 to replace a lock, and $50 to $300 for a car lockout (Housecall Pro).
After-hours and emergency calls run 1.5 to 2 times the daytime rate. By the hour, locksmith labor runs about $65 to $90 for residential and automotive work, $70 to $110 for commercial and $90 to $125 for access control (1-800-Unlocks, 2026).
Charge a flat price for the jobs you do every day and an hourly rate for safes, access control and anything you can't size on the phone — customers want a number up front, and a flat price rewards you for getting faster.

THE PRICING FORMULA
How to price a locksmith job
Six steps from your costs to the number on your price list.
Work out your labor cost per job
(Hourly wage × labor burden) × job hours — Housecall Pro's formula. Burden is the taxes, insurance and benefits on top of the wage.
Add overhead per job
(Total monthly overhead ÷ monthly billable hours) × the hours the job takes, including the drive and the non-billable time around it (Housecall Pro).
Set a target margin
Housecall Pro suggests 30%–40% net on residential work and 40%–50% on commercial projects; automotive and smart-lock work can support more.
Price from the margin, not on top of cost
Price = break-even cost ÷ (1 − target margin) (Housecall Pro). A 35% margin on a $60 cost is $60 ÷ 0.65, about $92 — not $60 × 1.35.
Add the service call and the hour
A $35–$100 service call or trip fee on every visit, and 1.5–2× the daytime rate after hours or in an emergency (Housecall Pro).
Raise prices a little every year
Housecall Pro suggests small annual increases of 3%–5% so your rates keep up with your costs without a jump customers notice.
The formula, worked through
Say it's a daytime house lockout. Housecall Pro's market range is $75–$200, plus a $35–$100 service call.
Suppose your labor and overhead for the call come to $60 (your own number). At Housecall Pro's 35% residential target, the price is $60 ÷ 0.65, about $92. Add a $50 service call and the visit is about $142 — inside the market range.
So “house lockouts from $75 plus a service call” is a fair line for your price list. If your own numbers land above the range, look at drive time and the hours you bill before you cut the price.
The formula and the margin target are Housecall Pro's; the $60 cost stands in for your own.
What to charge in your area
The ranges on this page are US national figures, and Housecall Pro notes that local labor and living costs, the lock's security grade and the time of day move every one of them (August 2026).
Across all prices, the Bureau of Economic Analysis puts California at 110.7 against a US average of 100 and Arkansas at 86.9 (2024 regional price parities, released February 2026) — so a $150 lockout in an average market is about $165 in California and about $130 in Arkansas.
Outside the US, treat the ranges as a shape, not a price — a service call for the trip, flat prices for lockouts and rekeys, and more after hours hold everywhere — and check what local locksmiths list on their own websites. In the US, some states license locksmiths and others don't; check your state before you advertise.
Put your prices on your website
A price list — even “from” prices — answers a customer's first question before they pick up the phone, and it's the line an AI assistant can quote when someone asks what a locksmith costs near them.
If you build your site with Zarla, tell the editor “add a pricing section: house lockouts from $75, rekeys from $50 per lock, car lockouts from $50” and your prices go on the site, in a section you can edit any time.
