The short answer
Freelance videographers charge $40 to $500 an hour, or $400 to $4,000 a day, in the US — junior $40–$90 an hour and $400–$800 a day, mid-level $90–$200 and $800–$2,000, senior $200–$500 and $2,000–$4,000 (Ruah Creative House, August 2026). Fash's estimate data is $75–$350 an hour and $700–$2,000+ a day (March 2023); Upwork's marketplace clusters at $10–$53 an hour.
By job: a single social media video $200–$1,500, a real estate listing $200–$800, half a day of event coverage $500–$2,500, a corporate interview or testimonial $800–$3,500, a product video $1,000–$5,000, a commercial or brand film $5,000–$50,000 (Ruah Creative House). Weddings price as packages: $1,000–$1,800 for a single-camera ceremony recording, $2,500–$4,000 standard, $4,000–$7,000 premium, $7,000–$15,000+ luxury (Ruah Creative House, April 2026); the national average is $2,300 in The Knot's Real Weddings Study and $3,993 in Zola's, as Paperlust reports them (July 2026).
The add-ons: a second videographer $500–$1,500, drone footage $300–$800, a same-day edit $500–$2,000, raw footage $200–$500, each extra hour $150–$400 (Ruah Creative House); travel $0.50–$1.50 a mile beyond the first 30 to 50 miles (Fash).
Set a day rate from your tier, price every job as a project from it, publish “from” prices for the jobs you want — and remember the edit: a wedding is a shoot day plus 25 to 40 hours of editing, so its hourly equivalent is $150–$450 (Ruah Creative House). “How much do videographers charge” is put to AI assistants about 180 times a month on top of its Google searches (DataForSEO, October 2026).

RATES · OCTOBER 2026

THE PRICING FORMULA
How to price videography work
Six steps from your target income to a package on your website.
Set the income you need
In the US, a $75,000 take-home target means $115,000–$130,000 in gross billings once self-employment tax, gear, software and insurance come out (Ruah Creative House, August 2026); elsewhere, run the same sum with your own tax.
Divide by the hours you'll really bill
$120,000 over 1,000 billable hours is $120 an hour; pad 20% for scope creep and unbilled time to $145, then round to a clean number that signals your tier (Ruah Creative House).
Check it against your tier
Junior $40–$90 an hour, mid-level $90–$200, senior $200–$500 (Ruah Creative House). If the maths says $145 and you have 18 months' experience, build the portfolio first or accept a longer sales cycle.
Turn hours into a day rate and projects
Junior $400–$800 a day, mid-level $800–$2,000, senior $2,000–$4,000. Then quote every job as a project — a shoot day plus the edit — never an hourly meter the client watches (Ruah Creative House).
Price the edit
A wedding is 8–12 hours of shooting plus 20–40 hours of editing; a $2,500–$5,000 package is $150–$400 an effective hour (Ruah Creative House). Fash puts editing at $20–$150+ an hour when it is billed separately.
Publish packages with add-ons
Wedding tiers at $1,000–$1,800, $2,500–$4,000, $4,000–$7,000 and $7,000–$15,000+, with the second shooter ($500–$1,500), drone ($300–$800) and raw footage ($200–$500) as lines (Ruah Creative House, April 2026). The add-on sells itself when it's printed.
The formula, worked through
Say a mid-level videographer with five years' experience is asked to film a wedding: eight hours of coverage, a highlight film and a full ceremony edit, with a drone.
The standard tier is $2,500–$4,000 (Ruah Creative House); the drone adds $300–$800. Call it $3,500 all in. The effort behind it is a shoot day at $800–$2,000 plus about 30 hours of editing — $3,500 over roughly 40 hours is about $88 an hour, at the bottom of the $90–$200 mid-level band.
So the package is priced fairly but not generously: raise it when the portfolio supports a premium tier, and print “wedding films from $2,500, corporate interviews from $1,500, listing videos from $300” on your website. The arithmetic is ours; the rates are the publishers'.
What to charge in your part of the country
Major metros add 30 to 60 percent to a videographer's rates and rural markets subtract 20 to 30 — Ruah Creative House's modifier table runs from 1.3–1.6× for premium metros (New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Washington) through 1.0–1.2× for major metros and 0.85–1.0× for secondary ones to 0.7–0.85× for small markets and 0.6–0.75× rural: a senior videographer charging $300 an hour in Manhattan would charge $200 for the same work in Charlotte and $150 in a rural market (Ruah Creative House, August 2026). For weddings, The Knot's regional averages as Paperlust reports them run from $3,000 in the Mid-Atlantic and $2,700 in the Northeast to $2,100–$2,200 in the Midwest, West, South and Southwest, with New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco videographers starting at $3,500–$4,500 for a basic package and Zola's city data at $6,091 in San Francisco against $3,005 in Salt Lake City (July 2026).
Across all prices, the Bureau of Economic Analysis puts California at 110.7 against a US average of 100 and Arkansas at 86.9 (2024 regional price parities, released February 2026).
In the US, a freelancer pays 15.3% self-employment tax on net earnings of $400 or more, and drone footage needs an FAA Part 107 licensed pilot (both as Ruah Creative House reports them) — two reasons the rate has to sit well above an employee's wage. Outside the US your tax and drone rules differ; check your local rules and confirm the tax line with your accountant.
Put your prices on your website
A price list — even “from” prices — answers a customer's first question before they pick up the phone, and it's the line an AI assistant can quote when someone asks what a video shoot costs near them.
If you build your site with Zarla, tell the editor “add a pricing section: wedding films from $2,500, corporate interviews from $1,500, event coverage from $500, listing videos from $300” and your prices go on the site, in a section you can edit any time. Videography pricing: common questions
$40–$90 an hour with one to three years' experience, $90–$200 at mid-level, $200–$500 senior (Ruah Creative House, August 2026); Fash's estimate data is $75–$350 an hour (March 2023). The calculator above uses those bands — but quote projects, not hours, wherever you can.
$400–$800 a day junior, $800–$2,000 mid-level, $2,000–$4,000 senior, and $4,000+ for specialist commercial work (Ruah Creative House, August 2026). Fash puts day rates at $700–$2,000+, and $1,000–$3,500 a day for corporate events needing several cameras (March 2023).
$1,000–$1,800 for a single-camera ceremony recording, $2,500–$4,000 for a highlight film plus full ceremony edit, $4,000–$7,000 with drone and getting-ready coverage, $7,000–$15,000+ for a full-day documentary film (Ruah Creative House, April 2026). The national average is $2,300 in The Knot's study and $3,993 in Zola's, as Paperlust reports them (July 2026).
A single social media video $200–$1,500, a corporate interview or testimonial $800–$3,500, a product video $1,000–$5,000, a brand film $5,000–$50,000 (Ruah Creative House, August 2026). Monthly retainers for four to eight short-form videos run $2,000–$8,000.
$200–$500 for a residential walkthrough, $400–$800 with drone and twilight shots, $800–$2,500 for a luxury listing with voiceover and neighbourhood footage (Ruah Creative House, August 2026); Fash's range is $250–$600. Many real estate videographers run a per-listing rate card and shoot three to five listings a week.
A second videographer $500–$1,500, drone footage $300–$800, a same-day edit $500–$2,000, raw footage $200–$500, each extra hour $150–$400 (Ruah Creative House, April 2026); Paperlust's add-on table puts rush editing at $200–$500 and physical delivery at $50–$200 (July 2026). Travel beyond the first 30 to 50 miles is $0.50–$1.50 a mile (Fash).
Build it into the project price — a wedding's 20–40 hours of editing is most of the work — and publish an hourly rate only for extra edits a client asks for later. When editing is billed on its own, Fash puts it at $20–$150+ an hour; ProductionHUB's editor day rates, as Ruah Creative House cites them, are $400–$1,200.
Yes — package tiers with “from” prices and the add-ons listed. Most videographers don't publish prices, which is exactly why a listed package wins the enquiry. On a Zarla site, tell the editor “add a pricing section” with your packages, and change them any time.
