What a pet sitting or dog walking business website needs
Owners are choosing someone to walk into their home and look after their animal, so the site has to feel safe first and be easy to book second. The first booking is usually a meet-and-greet.
- A meet-and-greet to book. The first step, free or paid, bookable from the site, so the owner can meet you before handing over a key.
- Services and rates. Walk lengths, drop-in visits, overnight stays and daycare, with the price for each and for an extra pet.
- Proof of care. Insurance and bonding, any pet first-aid certification, and what you do if a pet gets sick or loose.
- The neighborhoods you cover. Walkers and sitters work small areas; name them, so owners nearby know you come to them.
- How owners hear from you. Photos or notes after each visit, how keys are handled, and how to reach you on the day.
The tests, and how we scored them
The 8 tests, and what it takes to get a tick:
- Book walks and visits online. Owners book when they get a minute, often late at night. Tick: they can book or request a walk or visit on your site, on the website plan. Dash: it's a request you approve in separate software, or a plugin.
- Customers book repeat walks. Daily and weekly walks are the steady money. Tick: owners pick a repeat as they book. Dash: you set up the repeats for them.
- Finished first draft. Most walkers and sitters work solo, fitting the admin in between walks. Tick: it writes the whole site, pages and words, from a description of your business. Dash: templates, or AI that only writes some of it.
- Edit by chat, new pages by AI. Rates, holiday availability and the areas you cover change often. Tick: you type a change and the site updates, and you can ask for a new page and get one.
- Local search set up for you. Owners want someone nearby, so walkers and sitters get picked by neighborhood. Tick: a map of the areas you cover, a page for each town, and your Google reviews on the site, all built in. Dash: some of that, or only with add-ons.
- Search coaching. Dog walker, cat sitter and overnight pet sitting are all separate searches, and each deserves a page. Tick: something that checks your site and tells you what to fix, plus a Google Search Console connection that turns your search data into ideas for new pages. Dash: one of the two.
- Fast pages, measured. Owners look for a sitter on their phone, often the week before a trip. We measured this ourselves with Google's PageSpeed test on real sites built with each builder. Tick: a typical phone score of 90 or more, which Google calls good. Dash: 50 to 89. Cross: under 50.
- Leads, invoices and payments together. Regular walks mean regular invoices, and clients expect to pay online. Tick: a leads inbox, invoices and online payments, all built in. Dash: some of them, or only with plugins.
How we picked them. Wix, Squarespace, GoDaddy (its Websites + Marketing builder) and WordPress.com are the four ChatGPT names most often for this question. Zarla is ours.
How we scored them. Same tests for everyone, each worth the same. We checked every answer on the builder's own website and help pages on September 28, 2026. When two builders tie on points, the one with fewer crosses goes first.
How we measured speed. Google's PageSpeed test, three runs each on phone and desktop, on up to ten real sites per builder. For the others we used the first sites built with them that came up in Google for home-service businesses in five US cities (for WordPress, any WordPress site). Zarla sites don't rank in those searches yet, so we picked ten at random from our customers' published sites and don't name them. It's a sample, not a promise about any one site.
What we didn't score. Price, because every plan bundles different things (each builder's own price is on its card, and Zarla's is on our pricing page), and how long it takes to get a site live, which we plan to time and add here. Spotted something out of date? Tell us.
Other trades. The same tests for cleaning businesses, junk removal companies, car detailing businesses, pressure washing businesses, plumbers, handyman businesses.
Questions owners ask
If you run a team with daily routes, scheduling software such as Time To Pet handles repeat schedules, staff and a client portal; its website is a single-page add-on that links to that portal. If you're solo or small, a website with online booking and a leads inbox covers most of it.
Your services and prices, the neighborhoods you cover, your insurance and any certification, reviews from owners, photos of the pets you care for (with permission), and an easy way to book a meet-and-greet. What pet sitters and dog walkers charge helps with the prices.
Squarespace, through Acuity Scheduling (a separate subscription), lets customers make a booking repeat. Wix lets you set up a repeating series for a customer, and pet-sitting software such as Time To Pet repeats schedules you set up from templates; GoDaddy repeats only group events. Zarla books one walk or visit at a time today.
