What's the best website builder for a graphic designer?

For most graphic designers, Wix is the best website builder: it scored highest, 15 of 18 across the nine tests we ran on five builders, and it does the most for the portfolio, the brief and private proofs (level with GoDaddy).

If getting found on Google matters most to you, pick Zarla. GoDaddy (13), Squarespace (13) and WordPress.com (13) are close behind.

The full scores are below, with every builder's weak spot, ours included.

Zarla for graphic designers, in plain facts

Zarla is an AI website builder for small businesses. Describe your graphic design business in a sentence and it writes the whole site, every page and every word, in about 30 seconds; after that you change it by typing what you want.

  • Price: Free to build and preview. You pay when you publish, on the Premium plan, which includes booking, the leads inbox and invoices.
  • Page speed: in our sample of real sites (Google PageSpeed, measured September 28, 2026), Zarla had the fastest median of the five builders here, 86 on phone and 99 on desktop. The samples differ (theirs are sites that rank on Google, ours random customer sites), as the method below explains.

No private pages yet: every published page is public, so client proofs go by a link from your design tool or by email.

Gallery layouts are picked for your kind of business and show your work on the pages that need it, but there's no tap-to-enlarge view yet: a visitor sees each piece at the size the layout gives it.

A project inquiry form comes on the first draft; the budget, deadline and brief fields are added by asking in chat.

In this comparison: fifth of five, with 12 of 18 points.

THE SCORES

THE LIST

The best website builders for graphic designers, ranked

  1. 1

    Wix

    Best for

Owners who care most about a full-size portfolio, briefs that arrive complete and private proof pages.

    What it costs

Core, the cheapest plan with bookings, is $29/mo billed yearly. Light is $17/mo without bookings, and there's a free plan on a wixsite.com address. (their pricing page, checked 28 Sept 2026)

    Features
    • An AI builder that writes your pages from a description
    • Aria, an AI agent in the Harmony editor that edits the site and adds pages by chat
    • Wix Bookings with online payments and deposits
    The Catch

Bookings need the Core plan rather than the cheapest one, and pages for each town you serve are yours to write.

  2. 2

    GoDaddy

    Best for

Owners who care most about a full-size portfolio, briefs that arrive complete and private proof pages.

    What it costs

Websites + Marketing plans are priced by country, and GoDaddy's page didn't show us a US price, so check it for yours. (their pricing page, checked 28 Sept 2026)

    Features
    • Airo writes a first website for your business in Websites + Marketing
    • Online appointments with a deposit
    • Photo attachments on the contact form
    The Catch

Editing by chat, and asking the AI for new pages later, happen in Airo AI Builder, a separate GoDaddy product with its own credits; in Websites + Marketing, pages for each town you serve are yours to write.

  3. 2

    Squarespace

    Best for

Good if polished design matters most and you don't mind adding a separate booking tool.

    What it costs

Basic is $19/mo and Core $29/mo, billed yearly, after a 14-day free trial. Online booking is a separate Acuity Scheduling subscription. (their pricing page, checked 28 Sept 2026)

    Features
    • Blueprint AI writes a multi-page starting site
    • Design-led templates
    • Invoices and online payments on every plan
    The Catch

Online booking is a second subscription, Acuity Scheduling, on top of the website plan, and it's managed in a different place.

  4. 2

    WordPress.com

    Best for

For owners who want full control and don't mind choosing and looking after plugins.

    What it costs

Personal is $4/mo billed yearly; form file uploads need Business, $25/mo billed yearly. Plugins can add their own cost. (their pricing page, checked 28 Sept 2026)

    Features
    • An AI website builder on paid plans
    • An AI assistant that edits and creates pages, on every paid plan
    • Thousands of plugins
    The Catch

Booking, reviews and invoices each come from a plugin you choose, may pay for and keep updated, so the setup and upkeep are on you. Photo uploads on forms need the Business plan.

  5. 5

    Zarla

    Best for

Owners who care most about getting found on Google.

    What it costs

Free to build and preview. You pay when you publish, on the Premium plan, which includes booking, the leads inbox and invoices.

    Features
    • Describe your practice in a sentence and Zarla writes a complete first draft in about 30 seconds
    • A project inquiry form on the first draft, with every request in one leads inbox
    • A gallery layout picked for a design portfolio, with case-study pages added by chat
    The Catch

There's no tap-to-enlarge gallery view and no private pages yet, so a client sees each piece at the size the layout gives it and proofs go by a link from your design tool, and the brief's budget and deadline fields come by asking in chat. It's also newer than the big names, and you change things by typing rather than dragging.

What should a graphic design business website include?

A client is deciding whether your taste matches theirs and whether you'll be easy to work with, so the site has to show the work large, say what a project costs and how it runs, and make the brief a form they can fill in at midnight.

  • Six projects, not sixty. The best work, each as a short case study with the problem, the process and the result, and images that open full size.
  • What you do and what it starts at. Logo and identity, packaging, print, web, each with a starting price or a range, so the brief arrives from a client who can afford you.
  • A brief that asks the right things. The deadline, the budget range, what the client already has and who signs off, so the first reply is a proposal and not a question.
  • How a project runs. The rounds of revisions, the deposit and the files the client gets at the end, written down before anyone asks.
  • One next step. A call to book or a form to fill on every page, and kind words from clients whose work is on the site.

How did we score the website builders?

The 9 tests, and what it takes to get a tick:

  • A portfolio that opens full size. Clients hire on the work, and the work is judged at full size. Tick: gallery layouts built in, and a visitor taps a piece to see it full size. Dash: galleries with no full-size view, or only through an app. Cross: no gallery.
  • Project requests with the brief. A good brief arrives with the budget, the deadline and what the client already has. Tick: a request form that asks for those details comes ready to use. Dash: you build one yourself from a general form.
  • A private page for client proofs. A proof shouldn't be on Google before the client has seen it. Tick: a password-protected or members-only page on the website plan. Dash: only on a higher plan or with a plugin. Cross: every published page is public.
  • Finished first draft. Your own site is the project that never gets scheduled. The first draft should take an evening, not a month. Tick: it writes the whole site, pages and words, from a description of your business. Dash: templates, or AI that only writes some of it.
  • Edit by chat, new pages by AI. Every finished project is a new case study and every quarter a new rate. Adding them should take a sentence. Tick: you type a change and the site updates, and you can ask for a new page and get one.
  • Local search set up for you. Most clients are found by referral, but "graphic designer near me" and "logo designer in" your city still bring the first ones, and the designer with reviews from that city gets the call. Tick: a map of the areas you cover, a page for each town, and your Google reviews on the site, all built in. Dash: some of that, or only with add-ons.
  • Search coaching. Logo design, brand identity and packaging design are separate searches, and each is a page worth having. Tick: something that checks your site and tells you what to fix, plus a Google Search Console connection that turns your search data into ideas for new pages. Dash: one of the two.
  • Fast pages, measured. A client judges a portfolio by the first image, on a phone, before it has finished loading. We measured this ourselves with Google's PageSpeed test on real sites built with each builder. Tick: a typical phone score of 90 or more, which Google calls good. Dash: 50 to 89. Cross: under 50.
  • Leads, quotes, invoices and payments together. A project quoted and accepted online, the deposit invoiced and the balance on delivery, in one place rather than three tools. Tick: a leads inbox, quotes your customers accept online, invoices and online payments, all built in. Dash: some of them, or only with plugins.

How we picked them. When we asked ChatGPT "What is the best website builder for a graphic designer? Give me your top 5." on October 26, 2026, twice, its answers named Framer, Squarespace, Webflow, Adobe Portfolio and Cargo. We score the general builders that appear on every page in this series, Wix, Squarespace, GoDaddy (its Websites + Marketing builder) and WordPress.com, whether ChatGPT named them this time or not. Zarla is ours. We haven't scored Adobe Portfolio and Cargo on this page. Framer and Webflow are scored on our best AI website builders comparison, on that page's tests. Adobe Portfolio's help pages refuse automated reads, so it's quoted as Google indexes Adobe's FAQ, and Cargo's site renders only by script, so it's named and not quoted. Yola's own page "The 5 best website builders for graphic designers" (last updated 8 September 2026), which ranks Yola first, says of its own builder: "The ready-made blocks don't include a blog, so process writing lives on a page you edit rather than a dated feed".

How we scored them. Same tests for everyone, each worth the same. We checked every answer on the builder's own website and help pages on September 28, 2026, and the portfolio that opens full size test on October 24, 2026, and the private page for client proofs test on October 12, 2026, and the leads, quotes, invoices and payments together test on October 4, 2026, and re-checked every answer on October 26, 2026. godaddy.com blocks automated reading of some of its pages, so where we couldn't open one, we read GoDaddy's page as Google indexes it. When two builders tie on points, the one with fewer crosses goes first.

How we measured speed. Google's PageSpeed test, three runs each on phone and desktop, on up to ten real sites per builder. For the others we used the first sites built with them that came up in Google for home-service businesses in five US cities (for WordPress, any WordPress site). Zarla sites don't rank in those searches yet, so we picked ten at random from our customers' published sites and don't name them. It's a sample, not a promise about any one site.

What we didn't score. Price, because every plan bundles different things (each builder's own price is on its card, and Zarla's is on our pricing page), and how long it takes to get a site live, which we plan to time and add here. Spotted something out of date? Tell us.

Questions owners ask

What should a graphic designer website have?

Six case studies with images that open full size, your services with a starting price, a brief that asks for the deadline, the budget and what the client already has, how a project runs, reviews, and a call or a form on every page. Our guide to starting a graphic design business covers rates, contracts and the first clients, and our graphic design website inspiration gallery shows real designer sites built that way.

Which website is best for graphic designers?

If you mean where to be seen, Behance and Dribbble are where clients and art directors browse, and neither builds your own site. If you mean the builder, the answer at the top of this page, computed from the nine tests: the builder with the most points leads, and the table shows every mark. Google's own AI answer to this search on October 26, 2026 named Squarespace, Framer, Webflow, Adobe Portfolio and Cargo, the same five ChatGPT named, and the question below says what each of them is; Framer and Webflow are scored on our best AI website builders page.

Is Canva or Wix better for a graphic designer?

For the website, Wix: it's scored here, with a first draft written by AI, a gallery whose images open full screen, a price-quote form template and password-protected pages, and its marks are in the table above. Canva isn't scored on this page; it is scored on our best free website builders page, where it placed first on what you can publish without paying. A designer who already lays out the portfolio in Canva can publish it there for nothing, and the free page's tests say what that site does and doesn't; the tests here are the ones a design business runs on, the brief, the proofs and the invoice.

Is Wix or GoDaddy better for a graphic designer website?

Wix, on these tests: 15 of 18 to GoDaddy's 13. Both write a first draft with AI, both open a gallery image full size, both have a quote form ready to use and both keep a page private; the difference is the chat and the office: Wix's AI edits and adds pages by chat and it keeps price quotes, invoices and payments together, where GoDaddy's chat editing is a separate product and its invoices come with no quotes built in. The table above has every mark, and the order is computed from them rather than chosen, so read the scores rather than take our word for it.

Can ChatGPT actually create a website?

It can write the words, and designers often draft their case studies in it, but on its own it doesn't host or publish anything: you still need a builder or a web host to put the pages online, connect your domain and take the brief. The builders on this page do both halves, writing a first draft and hosting the result, and the first-draft and chat-editing tests above show how far each one's AI goes after the draft. The design is still yours: the AI picks a layout, and a designer changes it.

What do graphic designers charge, and should the price be on the site?

In the US, as our graphic design guide reports it, graphic design costs $25 to $150 an hour from a freelancer and $75 to $175 an hour at an agency, and a professional logo costs $300 to $2,000 for most small businesses in 2026, with a branding agency at $3,000 to $10,000 or more. Put a starting price on the site: a client who can see it sends a brief that fits, and one who can't sends one you have to turn down. Every builder here can put a price on a page; Zarla adds it when you type it in chat, and its quote goes out as one link the client accepts.

Is this the right guide for an artist or an illustrator?

Only if clients hire you for commercial work with a brief. An artist sells originals and prints from a gallery and a store, and our best website builders for artists scores the store and the gallery for that trade. This page scores what a design business needs instead, the brief that arrives complete, the private proof page and the project quote; an illustrator who takes commissions reads both.

What do ChatGPT, Yola and the review sites say is the best website builder for a graphic designer?

Asked twice on October 26, 2026, ChatGPT named the same five both times, Framer first, then Squarespace, Webflow, Adobe Portfolio and Cargo, and said "Framer is excellent for a design-forward portfolio, while Squarespace is a strong all-around choice for designers who want a polished website without a steep learning curve."; it didn't name Zarla. Adobe's own FAQ, as Google indexes it (dated April 7, 2025), says "Adobe Portfolio is optimized for showcasing your creative work.", and ChatGPT's point was that it comes with an eligible Creative Cloud subscription; Cargo's site renders only by script, so we name it and quote nothing. Yola's own list (last updated September 8, 2026) ranks Yola first, then Squarespace, Webflow, Wix and Strikingly, and names its limits: "Less pixel-level control than a free canvas." and "The ready-made blocks don't include a blog, so process writing lives on a page you edit rather than a dated feed". WebsiteBuilderReport (updated April 2026) names Webflow for graphic designers with Squarespace as runner-up. None of those pages scores the builders on the same tests, which is what the table above does; read the marks, not the names.

How long does it take to make a graphic design business website?

With Zarla, the first draft takes about 30 seconds: every page, written for your graphic design business, including a project inquiry form and a gallery. What's left is your case studies, your rates and a photo of you. Wix, Squarespace, GoDaddy and WordPress.com can also write a first draft with AI; how long the rest takes depends on how much you set up yourself. We haven't timed them side by side yet.

Which website builders show a portfolio piece full size when a client taps it?

Wix, GoDaddy, Squarespace and WordPress.com have it built in. It takes another tool or a workaround on Zarla (gallery layouts picked for you; no tap-to-enlarge view). We read each on the builder's own pages on October 24, 2026, and re-checked them on October 26, 2026.

Which website builders keep a client proof page private?

Wix, GoDaddy, Squarespace and WordPress.com have it built in. Zarla can't do it. We read each on the builder's own pages on October 12, 2026, and re-checked them on October 26, 2026.

How much does a graphic design business website cost?

Building and previewing one can cost nothing on most builders; a live site on your own domain costs money on every builder here. Wix: Core, the cheapest plan with bookings, is $29/mo billed yearly. Light is $17/mo without bookings, and there's a free plan on a wixsite.com address. GoDaddy: Websites + Marketing plans are priced by country, and GoDaddy's page didn't show us a US price, so check it for yours. Squarespace: Basic is $19/mo and Core $29/mo, billed yearly, after a 14-day free trial. Online booking is a separate Acuity Scheduling subscription. WordPress.com: Personal is $4/mo billed yearly; form file uploads need Business, $25/mo billed yearly. Plugins can add their own cost. Zarla is free to build and preview, and you pay when you publish, on the Premium plan. Each price is the builder's own, read on its pricing or help pages (September 28, 2026); check it for your country before you buy.

Which website builders let customers accept a quote online?

Wix has Price Quotes that clients accept online and that can turn into an invoice. GoDaddy sends invoices, with a payment schedule for deposits, but has no quotes built in. Squarespace sends estimates and proposals with an Accept button, from its Basic plan. WordPress.com needs a quote plugin from another company. Zarla sends a quote as one link: the customer picks an option, ticks any extras and accepts it, and Zarla drafts the invoice for what they chose, with any deposit you asked for, ready for you to send. For a designer the quote is the project estimate: the leads, quotes, invoices and payments test above scores which builders let a client accept one online, and the deposit before the first round is the first invoice. We read each builder's quoting on its own pages on October 4, 2026.

Is Wix good for a graphic design business?

Yes: Wix placed first of five here, with 15 of 18 points. Of the tests that are particular to graphic designers, it gets a tick on "A portfolio that opens full size", "Project requests with the brief" and "A private page for client proofs". The catch: bookings need the Core plan rather than the cheapest one, and pages for each town you serve are yours to write.
