Migration agencies report that Wix sites take longer to index because pages are rendered client-side in JavaScript. You have no access to server configuration, so server-side rendering and infrastructure-level caching aren't on the table. Wix has improved here over the years, but the architectural constraint is the architectural constraint.
Template lock-in
Wix's own help docs note that switching templates after publish means rebuilding the site — content doesn't transfer to the new design. For a business that plans to evolve its brand, that's a one-way door.
No content export
Unlike WordPress, there's no one-click way to take your content with you. Your pages live in Wix's proprietary format. Independent migration services exist; one-click portability doesn't. To be equally plain: Zarla doesn't export your site as files to host somewhere else either. SEO controls stop short
You get page titles, meta descriptions, custom URLs, automatic sitemaps — but advanced controls (schema markup, granular redirects, breadcrumb configuration, canonical handling) are limited compared to platforms built around open SEO. Dedicated SEO platforms like Yoast or RankMath have no Wix equivalent.
Pricing compounds at scale
Wix's entry pricing looks reasonable. The total cost climbs once a business stacks the App Market apps it actually needs — forms, chat, reviews, advanced SEO, bookings, a CRM. Users on Reddit and G2 frequently flag the gap between the marketing price and the maintained-site price.

Wix's AI website builder is Aria, inside the Wix Harmony editor. Wix's help says Aria will "generate your site's pages, layouts, colors, and fill your site with starter content and images" from your description and style choices, that you keep editing and adding pages by chatting with Aria, and that the site launches on Wix hosting with Aria able to connect your domain (support.wix.com, read 17 October 2026).
A free Wix plan stays live on a wixsite.com address with Wix ads; your own domain needs a paid plan, and Wix Bookings starts on Wix's Core plan, $29/mo billed yearly (wix.com/plans, read September 28, 2026). Wix's help also says it isn't currently possible to back up the site outside Wix: your content leaves as CSV, and your domain can transfer away.

When Wix is actually the right call
We're not pretending Wix is a bad product. If you need 800+ pre-designed templates, pixel-perfect drag-and-drop freedom, or the App Market ecosystem — stay on Wix. It's genuinely good at all of that.
